While kestrels are the smallest North American falcon, they have an amazing ability to hover stationary in the air to look for their meal. It’s called windhovering. Another amazing ability birds have is the ability to navigate using earth’s magnetic field. With recent discoveries, it is believed that a tiny protein containing iron atoms arranged in a row acts like a bar magnet, allowing birds to sense the magnetic field. Pretty incredible!
