Now with hyperbolic geometry. Love the swirling sense of chaotic motion, nod to the circle of life, and awen.
Working on a miniature painting inspired by gyrfalcons and green-wing teal and mathematician Steven Strogatz (more on him later). When teal lift up together, the almost but not quite chaos of their swarm motions serve as a defense from the falcon singling one out. Stronger together. Tonight I added the shadows and light passing through their wings.
I had the good fortune to join a falconer and gyrfalcon, to see first hand just how well he read and responded to nuances of the birds needs. I will never forget how in sync they were or the silhouette of the falcon flying just over my head. There is something about the active participation with falcons on the hunt that brings out a powerful connection to the natural world. I rarely feel so grounded — and I want more.
